Reducer Units Built for Performance
Every Renold worm gearbox is built around our proprietary Holroyd tooth profile, delivering higher torque capacity and optimum efficiency compared to standard involute profiles. This translates to longer service life and lower operating temperatures under load.
Our wrong gear reducer range covers three core series:
- jPM Series: Compact worm gearbox with torque capacities up to 520Nm and ratios from 5:1 to 70:1. Available as foot, flange, and shaft-mounted types
- WM Series: Single reduction worm gear units up to 45kW with ratios to 70:1. A versatile mid-range option for general industrial drives
- TW Series: Heavy-duty worm gear units for arduous applications, with centre distances from 250mm to 710mm and power capacity up to 1,500kW. Available as single- or double-reduction units.
All units accept standard B5 and B14 motors and feature heavy-duty ball and taper roller bearings for maximum load capacity.
Worm Gearbox Options for Demanding Environments
Renold worm gear units are at work across every major New Zealand industry, from dairy processing and forestry to mining, water treatment, and general manufacturing.
Our TW Series uses a phosphor-bronze wormwell rim, electron-beam welded to a cast-iron centre, to ensure maximum strength under shock-loading conditions. The two-piece, close-grain cast-iron gear case absorbs vibration for quiet operation, even in continuous-duty applications.
For corrosive or washdown environments, Renold also offers ACP Series anti-corrosion-protected gearboxes designed for food processing, chemical plants, and marine applications. Where a more compact drive package is required, provision for synthetic lubricants allows the transmission of higher torques without increasing gearbox size.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a worm reducer used for?
A worm gearbox provides right-angle power transmission with high-speed reduction in a compact package. They're commonly used in conveyors, mixers, agitators, winches, and other material-handling equipment—any application where you need to reduce motor speed while increasing output torque.
What ratio range do Renold worm gear reducers cover?
Our standard worm gear reducer range covers ratios from 5:1 to 70:1 in single-reduction and 75:1 to 4,900:1 in double-reduction (TW and WM Series). This flexibility means we can match a unit to virtually any speed reduction requirement.
How do I choose between a worm gearbox and a helical gearbox?
Worm gear units are the better choice when you need high reduction ratios in a single stage, right-angle output, compact mounting, and quiet operation. Helical gearboxes offer higher efficiency at lower ratios and are well-suited for high-power parallel shaft drives. Our engineering team can help you evaluate both options for your specific application.
Looking for Something Else?
Beyond worm gearboxes, Renold is one of New Zealand’s leading industrial transmission chain manufacturers. We manufacture stainless steel roller chain, heavy-duty conveyor chain, and custom roller chain sprockets. We also produce inline helical, bevel helical, and shaft-mounted gear units from our Auckland facility.
